BBQ  &  CAMPING  – How much better can it get?

We Glamped it up out at the Pechanga RV Resort for the 2nd Annual BBQ Festival a few weekends ago.

Pechanga RV Resort

We were really excited for the BBQ Festival and ready to taste us some BBQ!  We arrived at the RV Resort Friday afternoon and rode our bikes down and around the parking lot to see everyone setting up their Q’s.  This year there were BBQ teams in two parking lots (last year just one).  The main area would have the BBQ teams giving public samples.  Right away we saw that, compared to last year, the drink/seating area was a lot larger.  Planning for a bigger crowd!

Pechanga BBQ Festival

Looks pretty empty the night before!  We saw a Stubbs BBQ ez-up and wished it was the real Stubbs!

It was fun to see the BBQ rigs starting to get cookin!

H&H-BBQ

H&H had a long long line for samples, but they didn’t do that great in the rankings (in fact came in last).  It was funny because the H&H line crossed right in front of another booth – “Left Coast Q”.  The “Left Coast Q” booth had no fancy BBQ that I could see, no fancy ez-up, but I bought a sample of their pulled pork and it was GREAT!  Everyone was lined up in front of the wrong BBQ’r because Left Coast Q took 1st Overall!!

We have a favorite – “Hog Wild” from San Pedro.  We’ve tasted their BBQ at the 1st Pechanga BBQ event and then again at a Dana Point BBQ contest and we just love it!

We were talking to the guys BBQing and we spoke to Jon, who told us that the head of the Hog Wild BBQ team is heading to China for a while and that he, Jon, would be forming a new team –

Smokin-Hart's

We will definately be trying BBQ from this new team at the next event!  (Hog Wild came in 19th overall.)

When we entered the Festival we were handed a map and I wish I had made some notes …  You will see our notes after-the-fact where we wrote down what place the teams took overall.  I really should have been writing down which BBQ we tried, rated it and made some notes!   Next year I plan on doing this so when I see the final scores I can see if I tasted their food and what I thought about it!

We saw a team from San Clemente – (near our home town)

We sampled their chicken and it was very good.  They came in 51st overall (out of 70)

There was one team who served brisket and it was Jerk style .. I can’t remember the name …  see I need to take notes… it was very spicy .. a bit too much …

We had a great time and will definately be going again next year!

After filling up on BBQ we headed back to the RV to let our dog Max out and run around!  After taking a dip in the pool, lounging around a bit, we headed down to the horseshoe pits and played a bit, met some nice people and enjoyed the shade!

Max was tuckered out at the end of the day!

This year we were in Row B,  space 11 … the WiFi didn’t reach that space!  Not too happy about that…

You need a $10 cash deposit for the bathroom/pool/etc… key.  You get a number to call for free rides ..  WiFi codes .. if they work for you … and you get cable!
