We just camped at San Clemente State Beach.  It’s been years since we’ve camped there.  We live locally, so we usually head out of town.  This summer we camped close to home at Doheny and now at San Clemente.

We were in campsite #39 and it is a full hook-up site.  It was nice to be on the side across from the horseshoe pits, but don’t get me wrong, a spot on the ocean view side would be optimal.  But … there are three sites up front and they have “The View”!

Check out the view from the front –

We headed down to the beach … that’s a trek … we took the steep way down and the not so steep way up … the less steep way will be my “both ways” next time!

Saturday night I could hear something in our trash.  We have a pop-up trash can and never have a problem leaving trash in it over night when we camp at San Elijo.  Well, I could hear something really going through the trash.  I thought “Raccoon”.  The next morning there was trash on the ground, what a mess!

Well … my husband forgot to dump the trash on Saturday night.  I heard something in the trash again and looked out and saw a mess!  No animal … yet …  Well, I heard something in the trash can again and peaked out the window …. A SKUNK !!!!!  YUCK!!!!  At one point the skunk waddled backwards toward the RV and I thought ..”Oh My Gosh … don’t spray the RV”!!  It didn’t … thank goodness.  And, what a mess again!

My husband’s friend, who has camped here before, said “Oh you met the skunks” …. I guess

View from my window!

We walked around the park a bit and I noticed right away the ajax lines around tires, tents, tables, etc…  I thought it was weird, because some campgrounds don’t allow this.  Well, there are little black ants everywhere!  You need ajax!  I carry some bug spray, so I sprayed when I needed to.

The map with my comments –

I haven’t played horseshoes in years … loved playing again, except my arm got so tired!  I was good for about one game.  There are 4 benches to sit and watch, so we sat in the shade and watched some other people play … if they ever read this blog post … “Thanks for the invite to play in your tournament”!

Site #39 – We saw one patch of grass on our “side” of the campground … not too green anywhere.

The tunnel to the beach / state park.

A view from the Not-So-Steep way up to the campground.
