San Elijo – Campsite 59

I scored a front row spot at the end of the campground – beach level .. or very near to it.  YES!

We camp at San Elijo a lot and this time I was SO excited to be in this spot!  You can see the lifeguard stand in the picture.  To the left of the stand, you can have your dog on the beach, on a leash.

My campsite is right there!  Up the little slope and to the right!

Max loves the beach!  Some people take their dogs off the leash early in the morning … watch out as you might get ticketed.

The weird thing about this spot -  I think because the back opens up the way it does, some people thought they could just walk through our site.  First it was the kids on their bikes.  My husband wasn’t there yet and his Jeep wasn’t blocking their cut-through-path ..  There is a walkway right next to our site which I pointed out to the kids and then to a man who just started walking through out site until Max started barking at him!

I don’t know about you, but I think it is bad camping etiquette to walk through someone elses campsite.  On Saturday morning, the site next to us was empty, so a man pulled his minivan into the site and started unloading his beach gear…. right through our site.  My husband and Max were out on the beach and I was sitting in the RV and wouldn’t have noticed the minivan guy right off, but I saw our pop-up awning move and thought that was weird.  I went out and minivan guy had run into it with his armload of gear.  I asked him to not walk through our site.  He told me I wasn’t nice and I told him I think it’s inappropriate to walk through someone’s site.  He went on and on about how not nice I was and even told me ..  “I bet no one wants to sit around the campfire with you at night” … really?  What a jerk.  My husband got back from the beach and I told him about what the guy said .. my husband gave him a stare and asked if things were okay.  The guy quickly became nice ..  I was so mad and just wanted to go off on him .. not my husband, but the minivan jerk!

And … it turned out to be a very busy weekend at San Elijo, as a church group had a ton of people camping and enjoying a horseshoe tournament right behind our site on Saturday, followed by a Chili Cookoff and movie later that night.  So much for my view and quiet camping weekend ..  but at least they were nice people :)

Would I camp in this spot again?  Yes!  Location, location, location!!

RV Doggie Door with style

While camping this past weekend we saw this great doggie door -

Complete with stairs and a penned area with a cute sign too!

I thought I would quickly google ”RV Doggie Doors” and find a link where you can buy one, but all that came up was forums talking about this subject!   Doggie doors are frowned upon because if your dog can come out, other animals can go in.

We have a small doggie door at home and we haven’t had any problems so far and I can finally sleep through the night because our cat uses it too!

San Elijo Campsite Pictures – New Sites Added

We just camped down at San Elijo last weekend and I was able to get a few more campsite pictures.  The north end of the park was closed which gave me the chance to grab a few from that area.  I also got one on the lower end as people were leaving on Sunday.  I have almost all of the sites photographed!  If you haven’t seen my Camp Site Website – Check out my San Elijo page where you can click on the campsite map and view the campsite picture.

We lucked out with beautiful weather and some good lines —

I found lots of shells this time on my walk to Swami’s.  Some months you will find just rocks, no shells.  Other months you find shells, no rocks.  It’s always changing!

Max was a good camper and had to get used to his Bomber jacket!

Some things you don’t see everyday camping ..

The man , ladder , camera :)   Best way to get some good shots!

Or how about the ottoman?  hmmmmm

Happy Camping!

“Home is by the Campfire” – 5th Wheel is now available!

My latest design is complete!   I had a few people ask me if I was going to design a 5th wheel and as the “Home is by the Campfire” is very popular, I designed the 5th wheel in that setting.

I’m not sure what my next design will be.  I need to design an Airstream, a Fleetwood Pulse (like mine) and ???  I have lots of ideas and need more time!

This design is available in a Kit, Pattern or PDF file!

Making Camping Reservations – Do your homework!

This morning I was ready to make my camping reservation for next May.  My daughter is due with her second child at the end of the month, so I thought I would book a spot at Doheny, which is very close to home.

I went for the weekend of May 17th.

My finger was ready to click BOOK THIS SITE!

I was going for front row.

Nope… gone …. everything was going FAST!  WOW.

So … I googled “Dana Point May 2013″

Duh … The Blues Festival is that weekend!

I just looked at the Dana Point Calendar and it doesn’t even show the Blues Festival!

So, make sure you google the date and city plus look at the city event calendars.

Anyway, I hopped over to the San Elijo Campground and easily picked up a Hook-Up spot – Hurray!

Don’t forget to check my Campground Pictures before choosing your site!

Who got my front row at Doheny?  :)

Camping Dessert – Lazy Cobbler

One of my Cross Stitch customers, Debra Wages, was nice enough to send me one of her favorite recipes -

The Lazy Cobbler – a Peachy Yummy Dessert!

All you need… besides the ingredients ….  is a Dutch Oven and some charcoal!

This Dutch Oven is from Sears – HERE

Debra has used this recipe at Girl Scout camp for 30 years!  Her daughter Melissa has won several Golden Spoon awards with it at Boy Scouts.  So … you know it has to be good!

The full recipe is over on my Camp Site – THE LAZY COBBLER RECIPE

I can’t wait to try it!  There is an oven option … so you don’t have to wait until you go camping.  Or … if you have an RV with an oven :) you can make it anytime!

Camping at San Clemente State Beach

We just camped at San Clemente State Beach.  It’s been years since we’ve camped there.  We live locally, so we usually head out of town.  This summer we camped close to home at Doheny and now at San Clemente.

We were in campsite #39 and it is a full hook-up site.  It was nice to be on the side across from the horseshoe pits, but don’t get me wrong, a spot on the ocean view side would be optimal.  But … there are three sites up front and they have “The View”!

Check out the view from the front -

We headed down to the beach … that’s a trek … we took the steep way down and the not so steep way up … the less steep way will be my ”both ways” next time!

Saturday night I could hear something in our trash.  We have a pop-up trash can and never have a problem leaving trash in it over night when we camp at San Elijo.  Well, I could hear something really going through the trash.  I thought “Raccoon”.  The next morning there was trash on the ground, what a mess!

Well … my husband forgot to dump the trash on Saturday night.  I heard something in the trash again and looked out and saw a mess!  No animal … yet …  Well, I heard something in the trash can again and peaked out the window …. A SKUNK !!!!!  YUCK!!!!  At one point the skunk waddled backwards toward the RV and I thought ..”Oh My Gosh … don’t spray the RV”!!  It didn’t … thank goodness.  And, what a mess again!

My husband’s friend, who has camped here before, said “Oh you met the skunks” …. I guess

View from my window!

We walked around the park a bit and I noticed right away the ajax lines around tires, tents, tables, etc…  I thought it was weird, because some campgrounds don’t allow this.  Well, there are little black ants everywhere!  You need ajax!  I carry some bug spray, so I sprayed when I needed to.

The map with my comments -

I haven’t played horseshoes in years … loved playing again, except my arm got so tired!  I was good for about one game.  There are 4 benches to sit and watch, so we sat in the shade and watched some other people play … if they ever read this blog post … “Thanks for the invite to play in your tournament”!

Site #39 – We saw one patch of grass on our “side” of the campground … not too green anywhere.

The tunnel to the beach / state park.

A view from the Not-So-Steep way up to the campground.
